This paper describes recent advances in the study of relaxation in hyperquenched glasses (HQGs), i.e., glasses far from equilibrium. The new approaches for determination of the fictive temperature and the cooling rate of the HQGsare introduced and two examples are presented. The hyperquenching-annealing-calorimetric scan (HAC) strategy is used to explore the energetic and structural heterogeneities in glasses. The occurrence of a pre-endotherm is observed when a properly annealed HQG undergoes a calorimetric upscan. The pre-endotherm is followed by an exotherm due to the release of the excess energy stored during hyperquenching, and subsequently by the endothermic glass transition. Several striking features of the pre-endotherm are demonstrated and compared with those of the glass transition. This comparison is crucial for understanding the non-linearity and nonexponentiality of the relaxation in glass. The data obtained from the HACexperiments on silicate glasses are used to clarify the glass transition of water. Fundamental differences in relaxation behavior between a strong and a fragile HQG are found and analyzed in terms of their structural and energetic origins. The strong impact of the annealing degree on the vibrational density of states of HQGs are exhibited and discussed in terms of microstructure.

Spectral clustering has been used to identify clusters that are non-linearly separable in input space, and usually outperforms traditional clustering algorithms. However, the performances of spectral clustering are severely dependent on values of the scaling parameter. In this paper, an adaptive spectral clustering (ASC) algorithm was proposed based on traditional spectral clustering, which can choose the scaling parameter automatically by using techniques similar to kernel selection. The new algorithm was compared to existing parameter selection based spectral clustering algorithms on both synthetic and UCI data sets, and the experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

With the development of the internet, digital texts are proliferating. Protection of a copyright has become increasingly important in recent years. To solve the copyright problem, one way is to profile an author's writing style. By comparing writing styles, we could tell whether a text has been written by a certain author. Most of the current researches in author profiling focused on examining linguistic attributes or finding new attributes. However, the appropriate profiling of an author is still a challenging task. This paper aims to build a model to fingerprint an author, and took texts of an author of a certain domain as input and produced a profile of the author as output. Using this fingerprint engine we can tell with a certain probability whether an input text has been written by an author among a list of possible authors. This paper focused on author profiling of English texts. Writing styles were measured using linguistic attributes and linguistic measurements. Statistical methods, such as standard deviation analysis and principal components analysis, were used to evaluate the linguistic measurement's efficiency.

Speckle noise is one of the inherent noise patterns evoked by the mechanism of ultrasound imaging, which  brings great difficulties to feature extraction, recognition and analysis. Techniques based on the anisotropic diffusion equation can effectively suppress the speckle noise. An algorithm using the anisotropic diffusion equation was proposed to suppress the speckle noise of a medical ultrasound image. This method improves LinShi operator and enhances the conventional method by setting the threshold value and including diagonal edges. The simulation results showed that this  method is superior to the classical PM equation and LinShi operator at image smoothing and edge preserving, and denoising for real ultrasound image indicates that  this  method has high potential for clinical applications.

To overcome the defect of image denoising based on Donoho’s threshold of wavelet domain, a self-adaptive method for image denoising based on stationary wavelet transformation was proposed. According to different subband characteristics, a new scale parameter equation was defined todetermine the optimal thresholds adapting to each step scale, and the thresholds of the detail signals of each level generated by stationary wavelet transformation were obtained. The method not only well depresses the Gibbs impact well, but also supplies a gap of orthogonal wavelet transformation so as to retain the MR image details when wiping offnoise. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is more effective than discrete orthogonal wavelet transformation with respect to performance and visual effect.

For the reason that whisker sensors can only measure the displacement of whisker root alone, the mechanical model of the flexible whisker was stablished. The bendingsituation of the whisker was characterized by the magnitude of deflection angle, and an relation equation between deflection ngle and the contact position was deduced. The displacement of the whisker root was measured with the whisker sensors, and an experimental curve of the contact position was obtained. Comparison of the experimental curve with a theoretical curve indicated that the contact position between the robot isker and the measured object can be measured with the whisker sensors. The experimental data showed that the magnitude of deflection anglewas inversely proportional to the contact distance, and the smaller distance was more rapid magnitude as the deflection angle increases, based on which the localization information of a target object was obtained.

Seismic measurements during tunnel operations aim at images of maximum spatial resolution. However, there are still principal limitations of the method applied in tunnels with regard to the spatial resolution by the signal frequency and attenuation,  the signal frequency and attenuation, and the smallan gular illumination coverage. A finitedifference simulation of elastic wave propagation was performed to compute a synthetic tunnel seismic reflection   survey. Synthetic data were used for optimizing the best practice tunnel data processing sequence for both P and S  waves, especially for the use of attenuation models to compensate amplitude loss as well as dispersion by an inverse Qfiltering, and for the use of a spatially variable velocity model to yield the right image positionof a reflecting geological element in space. The transfer and capability of this practice to real tunnel application was finally demonstrated by the case study of the tunnel seismic prediction method in the Koralm tunnel project in Austria.

Structures with closely spaced natural frequencies exist widely, while the judging criterion of the density of closely spaced frequencies is in dispute. A judging criterion for structures with closely spaced natural frequencies based on the analysis on a controlled two degree of freedom structure was suggested. [JP2]The perturbation method was applied in the analysis and the results were verified by numerical simulations. It was shown that the optimal control gain of the two degree of freedom structure with velocity feedback was dependent on the frequency density of the structure, which was  quantatively equal to the maximum additional mode damping ratio of the structural mode with higher frequency. When usingstate feedback, the maximum attainable additional mode damping ratio is 3 times the frequency density parameter. The results indicated that the frequencies density parameter was closely related to the optimal modal damping ratio of the structure. Based on a brief review of previous research, a judging criterion related the minimum frequency density parameter and the required modedamping ratio were proposed, which has a clear physical meaning.

The sign of the real part of the defined impedance can reveal if the disturbance is from upstream or downstream. A positive sign showed that the source of sag was upstream, and the negativesign showed that the source of sag was downstream. A new and effective detecting method for the voltage sag source was proposed based on the defined impedance. In order to solve the problem that using a single during an event cycle could yieldunreliable results, the data of multiple cycles were processed by using the least squares method. Simulation results showed that this method was effective.

The surface modification of the polymer was studied by the plasmainduced polymerization method. The influence of the grafting reaction condition to the grafting ratio was investigated by using polyethylene as a polymer substrate and the acrylonitrile as a grafting monomer. The higher the reaction perature, the higher the grafting ratio. The grafting ratio sharply  increased when the reaction temperature reached the boiling temperature of the reaction solution.  The grafting ratio proportionedly increased with the monomer concentration. The grafting ratio increased along with the prolonging of the reaction time. The solvent had great influence on the grafting reaction. The grafting ratio increased with the increasing of volume ratioR(R=V(H2O) / V(CnH2n+1OH))when using methanol and water as mixed solvent. When R was zero, which means using only ethanol or isopropanol as the solvent, the grafting ratio had the maximum values for polyethylene grafting with acrylonitrile. The grafting ratio decreased when the solvent contained water. It was confirmed by ATRFTIR analysis that acrylonitrile was grafted onto the polymer surface.

Based on the structural analysis, the heat station monitoring system was divided into several different functional units. By using the structural design philosophy, the variables involved in the process were taken asthe function parameters, and four typical control process of the monitoring system were designed as common function modules. In order to simplify the definition and reference of the variables, seven basic variable models were sorted out according to the system’s functional structure characteristics, and optimized in form of structure body. A practical engineering application showed that the use of process function module and structure body can improve the program transportability, lower the development workload, and make the multisubstation monitoring system grow easily.
