Abstract:

Due to the shortcoming of conventional energy and increasingly serious environmental problems, there is growing emphasis on development and use of enewable energy. Nevertheless a related technology called distributed generation(DG) has had a great development. The background, concept and classification of DG were introduced, and then the technology features and developing status were described in detail for different types of DG such as wind energy, solar energy and biomass. Parallel approaches and related technical problems for distributed generators to be connected to power systems were also discussed. The prospective application of DG was analyzed according to the development strategy of renewable energy in China.

Key words: distributed generation(DG); renewable energy; distribution system
