Abstract:

Zirconia alumina belts were used for the dry grinding of a close alpha titanium alloy. Wearflat and hold height of worn abrasive were analyzed with 3DViewer microscopy. The ground surface roughness was measured with the Mahr Perth meter M1 instrument, and the stock removal was measured. SEM and EDS analyses were carried out on the worn abrasives to determine the grain wear mechanisms. Special experiments were designed to investigate the ground surface with different grinding stages of belts abrasive for grinding close alpha titanium alloy titanium alloys. The results showed that under the grinding conditions of lower grinding speed, lower feed rate and lower depth of cut, the zirconia alumina belts  have alonger service life, lower cutting abrasive wear and better surface. It means the zirconia alumina belt is suitable for the dry grinding processes of
the close alpha titanium alloy
