Abstract: B4C/TiO2/Al composites were fabricated by hotpressing. The effects of TiO2 and Al on the B4C/TiO2/Al composite were analyzed. In addition, the results show that the adding of TiO2 and Al improve hardness, strength, toughness and densification of the composite. The thermodynamic analysis and XRD method were used to analyze the composite phases. The result show that no TiO2, Al and Al2O3 are discovered in the composites by XRD. The TiB2 is formed by the reaction between TiO2 and B4C during sintering process. Meanwhile, the microstructure and toughening mechanism of TiB2 was discussed.
