Abstract:  Problems in analyzing the 3-D electric field of transformers were discussed.  Simplifying the transformer model leads to a better way to solve these problems. Transformer models were given by INVENTOR and the method of importing this model into ANSYS was introduced. The 3-D electric field of transformers was analyzed with zero boundary method and infinite element method.  The results of both methods were compared with each other.  The merits of these two methods were discussed and the distributions of voltage and electric field were obtained. The calculating results are consistent with the theory analysis. The rationality of the method is verified and can be used on transformer design.

Key words: transformer, 3-D electric field, ANSYS
