The structures of radial magnetic bearing with different rotor diameter and different magnetic pole number were designed. The finite element analysis software was used to simulate the electromagnetic field of radial magnetic bearing. The electromagnetic force and the magnetic field distribution were obtained. According to the simulation results, the influence of the number of poles on the bearing capacity of bearings under different rotor diameters was studied. The simulation results showed that the capacity of the radial magnetic bearing decreased significantly with the increase of the number of poles when the rotor diameter did not exceed 150 mm. While, the number of poles did not have a significant effect on the capacity of radial magnetic bearings when the rotor diameter reached 150 mm.
