%X According to the theory of space voltage vector and its control idea, a control strategy which could improve the starting torque of induction motor was proposed based on the thyristor soft starter-induction motor system. By achieving the three-phase stator voltage in the thyristors controlled voltage space vector transform, an effective control of the rotor flux and electromagnetic torque was formed. The structure of the main circuit of the traditional soft starter was kept unchanged in this strategy, in order to determine the initial trigger angle easily and quickly. The Laplace transform of stator current under the effect of vector voltage was solved and analyzed by building up the mathematical model of order reduction based on *αβ*0* *coordinate. To achieve the aim that induction motor acceleration could start smoothly, space voltage vector and zero voltage vector control had been achieved by means of controlling the trigger angle of the silcon controlled rectifier(SCR). The control strategy could improve the induction motor starting electromagnetic torque and effectively reduce the starting current significantly, and the results were validated by simulation and system experiment.
